Frequently Asked Questions Micro-Needling

What Exactly is Micro Needling?

Micro-needling involves using a derma stamp pen or a derma roller device. It is a simple procedure that uses very fine needles to break down old scar tissue and stimulate collagen production. New collagen leads to the formation of new skin tissue.

How does Micro-needling Work?

A needling device is used to penetrate the skin. This will create thousands of micro wounds. Your body responds to the wounds by producing significant amount of collagen and elastin fibres. As a result, this will rejuvenate your face by filling in wrinkles and scars.

What Skin problems are Treatable by Micro-needling?

Micro needling is proven to improve the following conditions: mild to moderate acne scars, fine lines, deep wrinkles, sagging skin, rough skin texture, pore size, sun damage, and stretch marks

What Do I Look Like After Treatment?

You will experience some redness and mild swelling for 2 to 4 days. You may even notice a slight bruising or several tiny blood spots, but they will disappear in 24 to 48 hours. Your skin will become smoother and radiant in a week.

What Does the Treatment Consist Of?

The treatment includes cleaning and numbing the skin. A derma stamp pen or dermaroller with microneedles is used to produce thousands of micro punctures in the skin. Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are applied after the treatment to enhance skin renewal and collagen growth.

What is the Down Time?

Micro-needling has very low downtime. Skin redness and inflammation are very common. They will disappear within 24 hours. Your skin may become slightly pink for 2 to 4 days depending on the severity of the treatment. You will be given before & aftercare instructions prior to your treatment.

Do I have a choice on placement & colour?

Micron needling significantly improves the absorption and efficacy of all topical skin care products. It stimulates blood circulation and collagen production by over 1,000%. It is very cost effective compared to many expensive and harsh procedures such as chemical peel, laser and dermabrasion.

Skin needling works on all skin types. It can treat the face, body, skin around the eyes, mouth, neck and the scalp. Micro-needling is proven to improve the following skin conditions:

  • Rough Skin Texture
  • Wrinkles
  • Fine Lines
  • Crow’s Feet
  • Laugh Lines
  • Surgical Scars
  • Acne Scars
  • Chicken Pox Scars

This depends on the treatment intensity. If you have sensitive skin, you can apply numbing cream to minimize pain during the procedure.

How Many Treatments Do I Need to See Results?

The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of your skin condition. Many people reported seeing noticeable improvements after 1 to 4 treatments.

How Often Can I Repeat the Procedure?

You can perform a new treatment safely every 4-6 weeks

What Product Should I Avoid After Treatment?

Chemical peel, makeup or anything that are not non-comedogenic should be avoid immediately after a treatment for several days. This will allow your skin to heal completely. Sun exposure is not recommended.

Is Micro-needling Safe for Me?

Micro-needling is harmless on all skin types since the epidermis is not damaged throughout treatment. The possibility of change in skin tones or hyper-pigmentation is small. Micro needling works on very sensitive regions (eyes, neck, back of hands) that can’t be addressed simply with other methods.

Micro-needling is absolutely not appropriate for people who have used Accutane in the last 90 days, have poor wound healing, have open wounds, have had skin radiation therapy in the last year, are struggling with any kind of abnormal skin disease, are pregnant, and have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.

Are There Post Infections?

Micro punctures or micro wounds close up quickly within 1 hour. Therefore, infections are very rare.

This method can lighten tattoos on any area, including around the eyes.

What can the client expect during and after treatments?

Who are the best candidates?

Individuals who are patient and willing to follow aftercare instructions are ideal candidates. Clients on blood-thinning medications or who expect immediate results are not ideal candidates for this treatment.

Clients should be realistic in their expectations. They should expect a lightening of the tattoo, but a full removal should not be expected. Clients should expect three to four procedures before they see desired results.
